Walmer Castle was built by Henry VIII in Tudor rose-shape and since the 18thC has been the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. It is very well preserved and visitors can see the interior including exhibits and furnishings relating to some of the past Lord Wardens, such as the Duke of Wellington's camp bed and famous boots. The attractive gardens with terraces overlook the English Channel and are also open to visitors. The gardens have a contemporary feel to them since being replanted as 'The Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother's Garden'.
